MARRYBROWN ‘MALA-aaaarrrghhh’
Different & exciting; that’s what drew me to this. Even though we had an extremely limited budget – that we had to shoot the food shots using the Kinefinity Mavo 6k camera to get a 2k resolution 200fps slow-mo visual – we made it work by further slowing down the shots during post-production. Working with Shootworksasia & Agency Dentsu, we had to simplify the board & keep it snappy, at first toying with the idea of using AI for the martial arts scenes, but realizing it would be too complicated as we wanted specific angles, & basically the same person to carry out all the stunts. Hence, we found a young but accomplished Wushu competitor who could execute what we required. Everything was shot against green screen in a studio, with 2 setups running concurrently; the fight scenes & the food porn shots. We had simple liquid crashing into peppercorn rigs, & fish-string drummets crashing together, relying on just gravity & the right amount of sauce to fling around as they crash together, etc. It a pretty fast & relaxed shoot, with DP Sean Loh. We had a 2nd camera for certain shots; the DJI Ronin 4D. Offline & Online handled by Max under Quaddimension & Color Graded by Nicole.
