JOLLIBEE ‘Spicy Chickenjoy : Reviews’
The 3rd instalment of the Jollibee series, with boards for each variant. Out of all 3, this Spicy version is the most dramatic & dynamic in terms of camera movements & it’s execution. Working with Agency Fishermen Intergrated & Graph Studios again, we decided on using the Robotic Arm (from Oscar Tong) this round, as 3 of the shots warranted it for this 15sec spot. The idea was to create delicious & appetizing food shots, amongst a spicy ambiance. Thus, using the smooth movements of a Robotic Arm allowed us to get creative with the twisting & turning of the visuals through tiny spaces, etc. This worked for the scene involving the little crumbs of chicken – I call it the ‘Star Wars’ scene – as the camera flies through ‘asteroids’ of crumbs towards 2 pieces of chicken that have hit each other & through the space in between them to the next scene (all against green screen). The 3rd scene we had 2 pieces of breast attached to a rig that would split & rotate the chicken with a tube running inside the chicken, so as the camera tracked towards the chicken surface, we would manually squeeze out the juice from the chicken’s surface. The play of supers was important in selling each scenario as well. Shot by DP Bee Ho using the Phantom + Red Raptor, with Kah Seng as the colorist. Edited in house in Graph Studios, that also provided the supers animation. Onlined by MC. Composed Music by Clinton, which was a challenge in itself, as we tackled many genres & styles before arriving at this final one.
