DUTCH LADY ‘Food Porn Plain Milk’
While I’ve shot a variety of table top F&B products including juices, I’ve never shot milk. So, when this board came along from Agency Entropia, Light Flux Productions & myself jumped at the chance. After all, I love creating delicious & appetizing food commercials… although ironically, eating isn’t one of my favorite things to do lol. So, with 2 boards to work on, I went to work researching all forms of milk ads; either plain or flavoured. We can’t really control the way liquid moves, but we can plan on the direction & manner of which we want it to splash or burst out. This was left up to our key-rigger Harris & his team, who spent countless hours trying different rigs & modifying them based on my input of their tests. We also tried different textures of milk to get the perfect look. How I try to have my signature in each of my commercials of late, is to incorporate the lock-camera idea to an object. I’ve been fascinated with this type of camera move for a while now, & to be able to inject my style & angles to the shots using this technique is incredibly rewarding. Initially, we only had Freefly’s The Wave camera for 2 days, but thankfully, Light Flux managed to acquire the Phantom 4k Flex for both days instead, much to the urging of DOP Chin. And I’m very grateful that we did, because the shots are just tremendous. Shooting at mostly 1000fps & occasionally 500fps, we shot for moderately long hours, with an additional day of Talent acting – shot with the Sony A7Siii, in the same studio with a kitchen set build. Agency & Clients dialed in remotely during the shoot, as this was during our MCO period, right before the actual lockdown.
