PROTON X70 ‘Kamal’
The 2nd Proton job & this time, we shot the facelifted 2025 X70. With an idea from freelancer Kenneth & working with production house JPS (EP Jaffri), we set out to create something a little different from most car ads. At the core of our idea, we wanted to equate how good, humble & helpful human beings, are just like the Proton X70. It’s an entire family of goodness! Shot over a span of 4.5 days (the ½ day being conti for bad weather), we travelled to KL city – for driving scenes, Lalaport for shopping & car park scenes, outskirts in KKB for nature driving, Gold Coast Sepang for some beach holiday, and entire day in Eco Sanctuary – roads, house. It was almost guerilla-style for some scenarios, but we had the Motorcrane on 2 days where we achieved some pretty dynamic shots, together with some adventurous FPV drone views (GoPro Hero11) & DJI Avata (Faz). As clients wanted this to also have an international feel (last minute), we had no choice but to rely on stock videos to portray other international countries where the Proton X70 would be shipped to, but also shooting some genuine South Africans against green screen & Pakistan talents playing cricket. Shot by DOP Simon Chin using the Red V Raptor (main camera) & the Black Magic 6k Pocket (2nd unit) for all car interior shots – DPed by Shahrul. My wish on this job was that this ad be better overall in terms of visual dynamism & storyline & I do believe it is a step up from the X90 shot more than 1 year ago.
