JOLLIBEE ‘Original Chickenjoy : Made With Love’

The 3rd instalment of the Jollibee series, with boards for each variant. Shooting this board was one of my favorites, as we built an actual u-shaped kitchen set with vibrant colors.  It gave so much authenticity to the whole homemade idea of the board.  Working with Agency Fishermen Intergrated & Graph Studios, we decided on using the Robotic Arm (from Oscar Tong) this round, as 3 of the shots warranted it for this 15sec spot.

The opening scene of the bucket was shot on an actual table in our studio surrounded by green screen (We had shot actual Jollibee outlet bg plates using the Insta 360° prior to our food shoot, & comped them in during Online).  With the Robotic Arm we crafted a beautiful camera move from the top of the bucket to the part where the Mascot winks at camera, & then to reveal a doorway that brings us into the homemade feel of the cooking scenes.  This 2nd part was shot separately with the camera on tracks, as we had to go through the actual full sized doorway that led us into the kitchen – where our talent would walk from the back of the kitchen towards the front & do her breading.  The camera then cranes upwards slightly in 1 continuous move & we cut to her knocking the 2 chickens together.  The cooking in oil scene was interesting, as we used Zappel to create the oil look with additional bubble rigs.  We needed several takes to get the chickens to fall nicely into frame.  The final match cut from the cooking tray to the end bucket scene required quite a lot of time, as we had to ensure the sizing & chicken position matched as closely as possible each time before the Robotic Arm did the whole crane down movement as our Jollibee Staff put the bucket down onto the table – bg surrounded by green.  We did separate passes of empty tables & with people, but ultimately decided on the earlier BG plates of the outlet that we shot.  DPed by Bee Ho using the Phantom + Red Raptor, with Kah Seng as the colorist.  Edited in house in Graph Studios & Onlined by MC.  Composed Music by Clinton, which was a challenge in itself, as we tackled many genres & styles before arriving at this final one.
