WALL’S ‘Café Latte Chocolate Chip Ice-Cream’

It’s been ages since I shot my last so-called Ice-Cream commercial – well at the time it was a Sorbet.  So, needless to say, I was anxious & excited at the same time.  The challenge here was having our talent eat her ice-cream outdoors under the hot sun :S …. Thus, working with Lightflux, we set out to beautify the board from Agency Havas.  The initial plan was to get footage or 3D the entire product sequence, for fear of timing.  But after much deliberation, we decided to shoot everything live – except the sole Ice-Cream formation scene – and even then, we shot the actual mixing liquids for the Ice-Cream content.  We shot at a real café – Pulp @APW – indoors + outdoors, & then moved to a studio for the food porn table top stuff.  Weather was good to us, except that even with a mocked up edible Ice-Cream, it ended up sweating almost all the time.  And we had to get the right consumption expressions from our talent, so our poor girl had to eat it many times.  The barista scenes indoor was pretty straightforward, & getting the coffee to drip at the right angle was a bit more challenging, but we managed, using the Periprobe 90° Laowa lens.  The most fun was shooting all the coffee shots in the studio, as that involved some major rigging from Art Department Harris.  We wanted a double helix liquid movement as well – & so he built a special rig that worked like a charm.  Shot using the Freefly Ember 5k and Mavo6k Kinefinity cameras – for talent shots – & DPed by Kenz Koh.  Edited by Onion, & Graded by Jing.  Online post-production by Meccanica EFX.  Music by Ananth.
