FUN 88 ‘UEFA 2016’
Nothing beats shooting in a foreign location like Paris – we’ve got beautiful scenery & landscapes, nice sunlight – unless it’s at very cold temperatures. And unfortunately, that’s what we had. Spring-time, with the average temp hovering around 7° to 14°, imagine what our poor celebrity talent had to endure. Fortunately for us, Cathryn Lee was the epitome of strength & determination, as she didn’t let the cold get to her. Once we were ready to roll, her shivers turned to bright & cheerful smiles, convincing the audience that everything was just perfect. Shooting almost guerilla style with Motionrom, clients Fun 88, & French support team Nicocorp, we visited & shot at almost all the main tourist attractions in Paris, including the Eiffel Tower, Champ Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, Pont des Arts, Pont Alexandre III, & Montmartre within 2 days. Time was scarce, thus we had to move fast, shooting minimal takes in each locale. A welcome challenge that I faced was having to operate the camera whilst also being the POV of what the viewers will view – keeping them close to the action & intimacy – & having to interact with Cathryn on a more personal note; holding hands, hands on shoulders. It was very interesting & I’m incredibly pleased with the outcome of both spots, each having a bit of uniqueness of their own. The final highlight of the trip was having to watch & shoot a match between Paris Saint Germain (the No.1 football team in France) & Rennes (whom they trashed 4-0) in their own home stadium. This regional spot was shown in Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, China & Vietnam. Nick Lee was my DOP, using the Canon C300 Mk II with additional pick-up shots with the Canon 6D. Editor was Keith Ngiau, with Color-grading at Meccanica FX & Online at Motionrom itself.
